Hoya Dual Image Hoya Dual Image

Originally developed for use with multiple exposures on a single frame of film, digital photographers can employ this specialty filter, which has a transparent half and an opaque half, to aid in masking two exposures that will later be combined in Photoshop. Position your subject in one half of the frame, then rotate the filter for a second exposure of the same subject in the other half. Use a tripod for best results. Estimated Street Price: $32 to $63.

Hoya Intensifier Hoya Intensifier

Also called a “didymium” filter, the Hoya series of intensifiers enhances subject colors to add saturation and contrast. Pictured here, the red intensifier accentuates reds, oranges and browns with little adverse effect to other colors. This is an ideal filter to enhance sunsets and fall color photography. Estimated Street Price: $32 to $63.

B+W Graduated ND B+W Graduated ND 501 (0.3-2x) and 502 (0.6-4x)

These graduated gray neutral-density filters slow light by 50 and 75 percent, respectively. That translates to a one- and two-stop difference, perfect for those bright skies that blow out shadowy foregrounds. Estimated Street Price: $49 to $203.
