Olympus FL-50Guide Number OF 164 feet / 50 meters at ISO 100 Designed to be interchangeable in the Olympus E-series of digital cameras, the FL-50 functions with automatic TTL modes, auto and manual modes, as well as a variety of shutter modes, such as slow-sync and second-curtain, for experimentation with a wide selection of scenarios. The FL-50 contains its own AF illuminator, which extends the camera’s autofocus reach (from 7m to 10m in the Olympus E-1), and flash intensity can be controlled at 1⁄3 EV steps. The head swivels 180 degrees both ways and offers bounce capabilities from -7 to 90 degrees. Sigma EF-500 Super DGGuide Number OF 165 feet / 50 meters at ISO 100 Designed for high-end compatibility with a variety of camera models, including Canon’s EOS series with E-TTL II operation, Nikon’s i-TTL series, Pentax’s P-TTL series, Sigma’s own S-TTL series, and ADI TTL operation with Sony/Minolta, the EF-500 Super DG offers many of the features of a dedicated system flash, but at a lower price. The projection angle of the flashlight automatically matches the focal length of the lens, ranging from 28mm at wide-angle to 105mm at medium-telephoto. The included diffuser whittles illumination down to 17mm wide capability. The modeling flash mode provides light distribution to check shadow illumination prior to the shot. A multi-pulse (stroboscopic effect) feature enables reduced power settings, and the flash head can be tilted from 90 degrees straight up to -7 degrees down. Sunpak PF30X Guide Number OF 100 feet / 30 meters at ISO 100 Dedicated to the top-selling Canon E-TTL II series (including the Digital Rebel XTi), the Nikon i-TTL series (including the D40) and the Sony ADI series (including the A100), Sunpak’s PF30X offers an affordable alternative to the big boys. The PF30X is smaller, weighing in at seven ounces, but still features a five-position zero-to-90-degree bounce head, an autofocus assist for low-light shooting, and three overexposure and three underexposure compensation levels.
